Dr Richard Scalzo (University of Sydney) is the lead data scientist for geophysics applications within DARE, specialising in uncertainty quantification for complex models of physical systems. His work with Prof Hugh Durrant-Whyte produced the Sydney Water Data Map in 2017, mapping data-driven decisions made across the entire business and laying out a comprehensive strategy for the future.
He has co-authored over 70 research articles in refereed journals focusing on applications of statistics and data mining in physics and astrophysics. His currently active research projects include probabilistic detection of water main leaks using quantum sensing gravimetry data, flexible probabilistic models for geophysical data in a resource exploration context, and efficient methods for automated inference of geological histories.
