About the opportunities
1. opportunity for a data scientist/biostatistician to work collaboratively on multiple grants
We are looking for a talented data scientist to join our team as a Research Fellow (Level B) or Senior Research Fellow (Level C) and work collaboratively on multiple grants funded by the NHRMC, MRFF and the Paul Ramsay Foundation. These grants aim to develop new mathematical models to address concerns such as Gestational Diabetes, Mental Health and Social Disadvantage. The successful candidate will join a vibrant environment where collaboration between academia, industry and government agencies prevails. This position will be part of our applied team and work on the implementation of existing statistical methodologies to the area of, diabetes, mental health and social disadvantage. While some experience in these applied domains is desirable, it is not necessary.

2. opportunity to work collaboratively on multiple grants funded by the ARC, Paul Ramsay Foundation and Defence
We are looking for a talented data scientist to join our team as a Research Fellow (Level B) or Senior Research Fellow (Level C) and work collaboratively on multiple grants funded by the ARC, and Defence. These grants aim to develop new mathematical models to address concerns such as optimal allocation of natural resources, social disadvantage and data-driven real-time analytics. The successful candidate will join a vibrant environment where collaboration between academia, industry and government agencies prevails. This position will assist in managing a program of research overseeing a number of small research teams. While some experience in the applied domains is desirable, it is not necessary.

- a PhD (or equivalent) in statistics/ biostatistics / applied mathematics, machine learning or a related discipline
- proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (Python, modern C++ or R). Demonstrable use of other programming languages is welcome
- expertise in mathematical and computational modelling of complex systems
- a demonstrated track record of applying latest developments in statistical machine learning to domain areas
- a demonstrated research ability in statistics/machine Learning, and Bayesian methodology and computation
The School of Mathematics and Statistics is one of the largest mathematical sciences schools in Australia, and in the past three years alone, our researchers have secured more than $12 million in funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council to fund 30 separate research projects, and have published more than 400 refereed journal articles as well as eight books.
